Dive into the deep end,
To the bottom of the sea,
Ah it’s a pool with fellow company,
I cruise along the bottom like a fish who’s free,
No predators to see,
I’m free to be my fishy-fish me.
50 meter pool,
Outside in the sun,
25 is too small,
I’d be a fish in an aquarium,
I get in the rhythm and work on my breath,
Respiratory skills,
A pool is a bubble PEP!
I put on my hand fin,
Fishy skills unite!
I zoom across the pool,
I’m a dolphin in flight,
I get lost in my rhythm as each stroke passes by,
I aim to perfect each one,
As I do it a bazillion times.
The water,
comforting,
A safe place that I know,
As a kid,
The beach or pool was the place we’d go.
Jump in for a swim for hours on end,
Or elude my school for the beach on a whim,
San Diego warm waters was the daily escape,
I’m getting good grades,
Do I really need to show up at 8?
Lap after lap a feeling of calm overcomes,
Like a mother embracing her fearful young,
I mind my rhymes,
10 strokes to a breath,
A few deep dives,
Can I cross the deep dark depths!
Hop out, I’m human!
Who would have known,
I am part feeeesh,
As swimming feels like home,
Can’t wait to return to the pool and imagination sea,
To be free as can be,
To be my fishy-fish me.
