Back in July, I escaped the dark, cold, yet intriguing Tassie winter for a Brissy blitz called the BPS 400 - 400km somewhere outside Brisbane. My lackluster mind and lethargic legs from the lovely lingering covid had me questioning my ability to ride my bike. I figured maybe I just needed some sunny sunshine, warm weather and solo time to just hang out with myself.
With precious vacation days at stake, I reckoned 4 days would be enough to quite literally FIFO - fly in, fly out. Flew in on Thursday evening and out Sunday avro. I managed to fly in, build my bike, navigate the city, ride the train, smash out the ride, ride the train back, pack my bike and fly out... and have so much adventure in between.
There were many epic aspects, few challenges and personal laughs. It is hard to put into words what is otherwise a magical personal experience... especially since "Heat of the night" by Aqua was playing in my head as I danced on the pedals! It was just SO nice to be out there, riding in the night under the stars, living the bivvy life doing what I love. Often life has it's way of pushing and pulling you various directions, attempting to influence your decisions, deciding what's best for you... it was nice to escape and ensure my heart's compass was pointing in the right direction... Follow those fine, fine arrows on that wahoo...

I experienced some beautiful country, climbed epic, tropical rainforest-ish hills and pushed across puddles of cow crap. Sometimes you just want to quite literally ride off into the sunset. And yes, pound a few coffees and nutbars to keep going just because.... I can!
I would have a few more pictures but I was on a mission to complete this spirit quest before returning to the darkness of the cold and mysterious island off the bottom of Australia... or just north of Antarctica depending on your perspective.
Thanks Bikepack Shop - it was a rad ride in the mostly warm rain.
The seasons are changing... trees are blooming... what will you bring summer down under? More adventurous good times and party mtb trains on two wheels, hey... :D

Finisher's circle at the train station... Do you see Alpachino?
